"'Battle-tested in Ukraine' means nothing": The Fourth Law CEO Yaroslav Azhnyuk on the quality criteria of Western weapons
Many Western defense technology developers use the "battle-proven" label after one-time tests of their developments in Ukraine. In reality, the only indicator of a weapon's effectiveness is its regular use by the military, says Yaroslav Azhnyuk, CEO of The Fourth Law.
Many Western defense technology developers use the "battle-proven" label after one-time tests of their developments in Ukraine. In reality, the only indicator of a weapon's effectiveness is its regular use by the military, says Yaroslav Azhnyuk, CEO of The Fourth Law.
As Yaroslav Azhnyuk noted in an interview with Tectonic Defense, the simplistic attitude of foreign manufacturers towards testing does not reflect the real state of affairs on the front.
"Many Western manufacturers bring their products to Ukraine, let the military test them, and then call the product "battle-proven." But the test itself does not answer the main question: do units use this product on a regular basis? "Battle-proven in Ukraine" means nothing. Anyone can test something in Ukraine," emphasized the CEO of The Fourth Law.
The entrepreneur emphasized that in Ukraine, Ukrainian units independently decide what to fight with and what to buy. If samples turn out to be ineffective, they are simply not ordered again, regardless of the results of initial testing.
"The real criterion is different: whether your tool is used on an ongoing basis. If the product works, it is implemented in units, feedback is given, and the manufacturer refines it to meet real needs. I think a more honest wording would be not "battle-tested", but "implemented in the Defense Forces of Ukraine", - noted the CEO of The Fourth Law.
Azhnyuk also noted that the main advantage of the Ukrainian defense industry lies in the rapid "feedback cycle" between the military and developers.
