Sam Altman's younger sister, Annie Altman, accused him of sexual assault in a lawsuit she filed Monday.
In the lawsuit, Annie Altman claims that her older brother sexually abused her for nine years in the 1990s and 2000s. This statement echoes statements that Annie previously made on social media in 2021, writes TechCrunch.
The next day, Tuesday, Sam Altman published a statement in X about this accusation on behalf of the entire family, namely mother Connie and brothers Max and Jack.

The Altman family says the lawsuit's claims are untrue. They say Annie has been struggling with mental health issues for several years, and they are concerned about her condition. The Altmans say they have tried to help Annie in various ways, including supporting her financially for several years.
In a statement, the Altman family wrote: "Despite this, Annie continues to demand more money from us. In doing so, Annie has made deeply offensive and completely false statements about our family, and specifically about Sam. We have chosen not to respond publicly, out of respect for her privacy and our own. However, she has now sued Sam, and we feel we have no choice but to respond."
For years, she has accused our family members of improperly withholding funds from our father's 401k, hacking into her Wi-Fi, and "shadow banning" her on various websites including ChatGPT, Twitter, and others. The most serious allegation she has made is that Sam sexually abused her as a child (she has also claimed sexual abuse by other individuals). Her allegations have since changed dramatically. In this lawsuit, they now include allegations of incidents when Sam was over 18 years old.

In a post on X late Tuesday night, Sam Altman suggested that Annie is seeking significant punitive damages.
“If there is any doubt about the purpose,” he wrote, “here is what Annie’s attorney wrote to my attorney: ‘It is important to note that, given that our client’s tort claims include sexual assault and sexual battery, we are permitted to seek punitive damages in this case under Missouri law. This means that we will be permitted to seek information about Sam Altman’s assets and present them to the jury for consideration of an award of punitive damages.’”
Sam Altman has long been estranged from his sister. He often speaks publicly about his brothers, who are themselves tech entrepreneurs and investors, but rarely mentions his sister publicly. Once, New York Magazine writes, Annie asked him to repost her podcast, to which Sam refused. The article separately notes that Altman repeatedly tried to offer Annie money, gifts and even to buy her a house.
The article echoes some of the concerns about Annie's mental health that Altman described in his response to her allegations on Tuesday. The article describes Annie's volatile personal life, noting that she once moved 20 times in a year. The death of their father, Jerry, in 2018 was apparently a turning point for Annie's mental health.
