The schoolboy developed the PhagoRix neural network, which accelerates the creation of antibacterial drugs and reduces the ecological burden on the environment. The scientist received 3,500 euros for his project.

Mykhailo Bilous studies at the Kyiv gymnasium "Claris Verbis". His project was supervised by biology and chemistry teacher Viktoriya Golovan. Bilous developed the PhagoRix neural network, which helps optimize the process of searching for and modeling new biological compounds.
This year, the Ukrainian delegation was represented at EUCYS in two categories — “Environment” and “Engineering”. The second member of the team was Polina Ursul, a student of the Ukrainian Physics and Mathematics Lyceum of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. She presented a project for a portable device for gesture recognition based on inertial sensors, carried out under the guidance of physics teacher Oleksandr Meshkov.
The European Union Contest for Young Scientists (EUCYS) is an annual event for researchers aged 14 to 20, organised by the European Commission since 1989. The competition brings together winners of national science competitions from dozens of countries around the world, giving young inventors the opportunity to present technological solutions to a panel of expert judges.
