As Business Insider reports, the American leader announced this on his social network Truth Social, commenting on a recent appeal by top managers of AI laboratories. According to Trump, instead of bans and restrictions, the government will promote the development of the sector, and will also soon appoint a special commissioner ("tsar") for artificial intelligence.
"We will in no way hinder or slow down the development of this incredible industry. On the contrary, we will value it, help it, and monitor its development!" the US president wrote.
Trump compared experts' calls to curb AI to political manipulation by opponents. He also expressed his belief that existing criminal laws are sufficient to counter cases of improper behavior of AI systems or their "misalignment" with the goals of their developers.
A group of leading AI executives had previously urged governments to slow the deployment of powerful models until robust safeguards were in place, but Trump ignored the call. The community’s concerns have grown amid reports that some AI agents from Anthropic, Google, and OpenAI were running out of control in test environments.
