He himself announced this on his Telegram channel, noting that it was an honor for him to head the largest defense company in Ukraine.
Smetanin thanked the team, the president, government agencies, and professional associations for their cooperation and mutual support.
Let us recall that Smetanin’s release took place against the backdrop of tragic events in Vyshneve, Kyiv region, where ammunition detonated after a Russian attack.
As a result, hundreds of local homes were damaged or destroyed. 9 people died and over 50 were injured.
Previously, JSC «Ukrainian Defense Industry» dismissed the heads of two state-owned enterprises after the shelling of Vyshneve. The reason was cited as violation of ammunition storage rules.
As dev.ua wrote, in August 2025, German Smetanin again headed Ukroboronprom. The decision was made by the Supervisory Board after a competition in which 14 candidates participated.
As of September last year, Ukroboronprom increased its revenue to $3 billion and entered the top 50 largest defense companies in the world.
