In his post dedicated to the memory of the Holodomor victims, Volodymyr Popereshnyuk, co-owner of Nova poshta, compared this historical tragedy of the Ukrainian people with current excessive taxation, for which he received a lot of negative feedback in the comments.
«In the language of economics, the Holodomor is nothing more than excessive taxation. And although the current level of tax pressure of 40-50% does not create hunger, it has an extremely negative effect on the economy and people’s well-being», — he said in his Facebook post.
At the same time, Volodymyr Popereshnyuk said that ten of his grandmother’s brothers and sisters in Poltava Region did not survive the Holodomor.
«They were still children. As it turned out later, it was a famine artificially created by the state. So much grain was forcibly taken from the peasants that there was not enough for food or for planting next year», — he shared.
The co-founder of Nova Poshta noted that Holodomor Memorial Day is another terrible reminder that we should study economics and economic history.
«The Holodomor of the 1930s, like other famines during the socialist experiment, is a vivid example of how taxation works in its maximum mode. Therefore, we must always reduce tax pressure on the economy if we want it to grow and strengthen, and Ukrainians to have a prosperous and safe life», — Popereshniuk expressed his opinion.
At the same time, a large part of his followers took his post extremely negatively. Here are just some of their comments on the subject:
The executive director of the Center for Economic Strategy, Hlib Vyshlinsky, even questioned whether such communication in social networks does not call into question all the efforts of «Nova Poshta» as a model of patriotic business.
«You say that Nova Poshta is an example of a patriotic business? Maybe so, but its co-owner generally doesn’t care who is „robbing“ him — his own government or the occupiers», — he cited a screenshot from the comments.
