Streaming service Spotify has added a new feature for Premium subscribers that allows for interactive dialogues with the app. Using artificial intelligence, users will be able to ask for track recommendations, learn the history of song creation, or analyze the content of podcasts and audiobooks via text or voice.

Spotify does not disclose the exact technical details of the models that enable this feature, but the platform representatives only noted that they use a combination of their own AI technologies and solutions from third-party providers depending on the specific user request.
The new tool has been integrated into the «Home» and «Now Playing» sections. In addition to the usual selection of music, users can ask the AI more complex questions. For example, what inspired Dua Lipa to create the album Radical Optimism, when a certain release was released, or what genre a track belongs to. You can also explore your own listening history: find out when the user first turned on a particular song or what genres have dominated their media library recently.
The assistant’s capabilities go beyond music content. While listening to podcasts or audiobooks, AI can tell you more about authors, guests, and episode ideas. For example, users can ask what other books the author has written or what other podcasts a guest has been on.
AI understands real-time refinements. You can ask it to play artists you haven’t heard before, then refine the selection by asking it to «add some Bad Bunny,» narrow the search to his latest releases, or make the tempo more upbeat. You can tell the AI to save a song, add it to a queue, save it to a specific playlist, or subscribe to an artist right from the chat.
The new feature is currently in beta and is available in English to users aged 18 and over in the US, Ireland and Sweden on iOS and Android mobile devices.
This isn’t Spotify’s first attempt to integrate generative technologies into its service. The company has previously launched a personal AI DJ that communicates with users in a realistic synthesized voice, added a tool for creating playlists based on text prompts, and integrated its catalog with external chatbots, including ChatGPT.
