As Spotify noted, users are concerned about the emergence of pages that imitate real artists, although in reality they are AI characters.
Spotify will display this mark on banners and in the “About the Artist” section of artist profiles, as well as in search and track lists in playlists, Reuters reports .
Starting Tuesday, musicians will be able to indicate in their Spotify for Artists account that their profile belongs to an AI character.
Spotify will also review profiles whose public image contains photorealistic images created by artificial intelligence.
The company said it would exclude AI characters from editorial and algorithmic recommendations by default, unless users themselves subscribe to these performers.
Artists whose profiles are flagged by Spotify's moderation team will receive a notification and the opportunity to self-disclose information about the AI or appeal the decision.
Listeners will also be able to see whether the artist has honestly indicated that they are an AI character, or whether Spotify itself discovered this profile during its own review.
Spotify added that the label would only apply to the artist's public image, not how the music itself was created.
