Spotify removed over 50 million songs with AI spam from recommendations

Spotify has removed more than 50 million tracks from its recommendation algorithms over the past year, classifying them as poor quality music or AI-generated spam. The platform has updated its algorithms to prioritize content from real artists.
This is reported by The Verge, citing an official report from the company.
According to a statement from Spotify, the editorial team applies uniform standards to filter out low-quality content. “Since implementing these changes, we have seen a significant reduction in listener concerns about such content appearing in recommendations,” the company said.
The service combines listener behavior data, user feedback, metadata analysis, and third-party AI detection tools to detect generated spam. Despite this, Spotify has not yet implemented mandatory labeling for all tracks created with the help of artificial intelligence. Instead, the platform has introduced an “AI Persona” label for artists without a real identity and has completely excluded their tracks from recommendation lists.
Other streaming platforms are taking stricter approaches: YouTube Music labels tracks with AI, Deezer allows users to completely filter out generated content, and Bandcamp has implemented a complete ban on music from artificial intelligence.
Spotify removed more than 75 million songs from its platform last year for being spam. The service is also working with Universal Music Group and Believe to develop a legal AI remix tool.
It was previously reported that scammers are massively hijacking the profiles of famous and little-known musicians and actors on streaming platforms, publishing artificial intelligence-generated content there under the guise of their new releases and appropriating royalties. Ukrainian performers are already facing the consequences of the rampant AI content and failures of verification systems, in particular, singer Andriana-Yaroslava Sayenko, whose author’s track was mistakenly blocked due to suspicion of using AI.
Тест dev.ua
