The US has approved a possible sale of air defense equipment to Ukraine for $2.68 billion. The package will include missiles for the S-300 and radars
The US State Department has approved a possible Foreign Military Sale to Ukraine of equipment for the development and modernization of air defense for an estimated $2.68 billion. If the deal is concluded, it is planned to be financed by contributions from European countries and funds from the US Foreign Military Financing (FMF) program allocated by the previous US administration.

Ukraine has requested a number of air defense equipment and means from the United States. The list includes, in particular, S-300 Clone missiles, GAM-67 missiles, extended-range laser-guided air defense missile systems, and Improvised Transporter Erector Launcher (ITEL) 1.5 launchers.
The package also includes:
kits for modifying mobile launch systems;
RPS 202 radars for countering drones;
trailers with lifting masts;
spare parts, consumables and components;
software and technical documentation;
transport services;
repairs, engineering, technical and logistical support.
According to the State Department, if the deal is signed, Ukraine will finance the purchase through a combination of European contributions and US Foreign Military Financing. The US funds are to be credited as the US contribution to the US-Ukrainian Reconstruction Investment Fund under a 1:1 reimbursement mechanism.
The State Department noted that the proposed sale should strengthen Ukraine’s ability to counter current and future threats. Contractors for the work are planned to be selected on a competitive basis.
At the same time, the published list does not mention Patriot systems or missiles for them. It is about the development, modernization, and support of other components of Ukrainian air defense.
It is important that this is a potential sale, not a contract that has already been signed. The State Department’s decision is an approval of a potential deal within the framework of the US Foreign Military Sales program.
