Enthusiasts turned an old AMD mining graphics card into a gaming one with FSR 4 support

The BC-250 card has attracted the attention of the community due to its origin: its chip is based on the Oberon processor (RDNA 2 architecture), which Sony uses in PlayStation 5 consoles. These used parts are now being sold en masse and for next to nothing on eBay, writes TechSpot.

Enthusiasts managed not only to unlock all 40 computing units of the chip (instead of the standard 24), but also to make it work with AMD FSR 4 technology.

A specially designed file (DLL library) can be simply copied to the game folder for a significant speed increase. During tests on the Linux operating system, the card showed excellent image quality and high FPS at a resolution of 2560×1440. The new development noticeably reduces the load on the video chip without losing image clarity.

So far, modders have only tested the upscaling feature under Linux, but frame generation tests and Windows work are ahead. This project is yet another proof of how open-source enthusiasts can turn unwanted electronic junk into full-fledged gaming hardware.
