Polymarket bids started appearing in Google News. The company called it a mistake
Polymarket bets started appearing in Google News alongside news stories. However, those results have now disappeared, and Google says they shouldn't have been there in the first place.
Polymarket bets started appearing in Google News alongside news stories. However, those results have now disappeared, and Google says they shouldn't have been there in the first place.
The links led directly to betting markets related to specific news stories. For example, before the results were removed, Futurism entered the query “will ships pass through the strait” (referring to the Strait of Hormuz), and immediately below reliable sources such as The Guardian and Reuters, a Polymarket bet was displayed on the exact number of ships that would be allowed to pass.

Initially, there were speculations that Google might be testing displaying Polymarket results as part of an integration with the service. Polymarket and Kalshi are actively seeking partnerships with journalists and media outlets, even those with questionable reputations.

It is unclear exactly how Polymarket ended up in Google News and when exactly it started, although reports of it appeared on social media as early as January.
Company spokesperson Ned Adrians told The Verge: “Google News is designed to show sources that create content about current issues, events, and important topics, and we have certain criteria that sites must meet to appear in the service. This site briefly appeared in Google News in error and is no longer showing there.”
Google is already working with both Kalshi and Polymarket to integrate their data into Google Finance. It is not yet known whether this deal is related in any way to Google News results.
