The R&D team at deftech company TAF Industries is working on developing its own software platform that will unite various products into a single control ecosystem. To do this, they are collaborating with another Ukrainian defense company, The Fourth Law, owned by Petcube co-founder Yaroslav Azhnyuk.
This was announced by TAF Industries CEO Volodymyr Zinovsky in an interview with DOU.
TAF Industries is actively transforming from a mono-manufacturer of FPV drones into a multidisciplinary group of deftech companies. Currently, the company's staff exceeds 1,500 employees, of which about 20% are engineers and another 10% are IT specialists. In total, the company employs more than 200 specialists with experience in the IT sector, including developers and management.
According to Zinovsky, the company's R&D team works not only on creating new devices (interceptors, bombers, or artificial intelligence for guidance), but also on ensuring the stability of mass production: it constantly tests alternative parts on stands and finished products in order to quickly replace scarce chipset components without losing quality. At the same time, engineers, programmers, and testers act as a single organism - developers immediately receive feedback from pilots after real tests to quickly refine algorithms.
In addition, the R&D department is creating its own software platform, which should unite all the company's products into a single management ecosystem. However, the CEO of TAF Industries emphasizes: "proprietary" does not mean "closed".
“Our drone should remain a platform on which solutions from other developers can be integrated,” emphasizes Zinovsky.
It was the principle of openness that became the impetus for cooperation with the defense company "Fourth Law", founded by Yaroslav Azhnyuk, which specializes in drone guidance systems.
The idea for integration came directly from military practice: Marines were purchasing drones from TAF Industries and guidance modules from Fourth Law separately, then connecting them together in front-line workshops. Learning about this, the companies decided to join forces and create a ready-made solution.
“For a division, independent integration is its own responsibility. But when it comes to government procurement, the responsibility already lies with us as the manufacturer,” explains the company manager.
In order to deliver a comprehensive solution to the state, the partner companies jointly went through a number of official procedures: product codification, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing, and a series of necessary technical inspections.
Now the Ukrainian military has the opportunity to choose between the standard guidance system from TAF Industries and the solution from "Fourth Law" depending on the specific combat mission.
TAF Industries summarizes that the main goal of this approach is to provide flexibility to the military and not lock the customer into one closed ecosystem.
