Tech enthusiasts accelerate drone to a record speed of 730 km/h. How they did it

A team of tech enthusiasts has achieved the fastest speed ever achieved by a drone — 730 km/h. This record has not yet been officially recorded, but has only been demonstrated in tests.
According to Tom’s Hardware, two drone designers, Aidan and Ben, who posted the results of their tests on the Drone Pro Hub channel, previously set a world speed record for drones of 626 km/h in December 2025.
However, their result was later surpassed by another team. In order to regain the lead, they first improved the propellers for their Blackbird drone.
The team’s secret, the publication says, lies in their custom-made carbon fiber propeller blades. This time, they used high-pitch blades that are more inclined toward the direction of flight than the blades used in previous attempts.
«This made them more efficient at high speeds because the propellers are positioned more parallel to the airflow compared to other propellers with a lower pitch angle. However, the disadvantage is that at low speeds, such as during takeoff or hovering, the motors must use more energy from the battery,» the material details.
However, it is worth adding that during the test flights there was a tailwind, so the actual speed of the drone was «only» 674 km/h.
After testing, the last drone was slightly damaged after a hard landing, but the team will soon have a chance to officially record its record.
Meanwhile, a Ukrainian operator achieved another record — he shot down Shahed with a STING interceptor drone from a distance of 500 km.
