As reported on the official TikTok blog, the feature is available through Story Camera — it can be opened by clicking on the blue «+» button in the Inbox section or on the profile page. The user selects one photo, after which the AI Alive icon appears for editing. The algorithm independently adds dynamics — cloud movement, changing lighting, atmospheric effects, light animation of objects and sound. For example, a selfie with friends can come to life as a miniature video with animated gestures, and a landscape — as a «cinematic» clip with the sounds of nature.
TikTok emphasizes that the new feature is designed to maximize the democratization of creativity — it can be used by anyone, regardless of experience in video editing. Thus, Stories on the platform become even more flexible and visually rich.
To prevent abuse, AI Alive goes through multiple checks at once. The image, user text query, and generated video are reviewed by automated moderators before publication. Once published, other users can also flag content as violating the rules.
All videos created with AI Alive are clearly labeled as «AI-generated» and contain C2PA metadata — digital information that allows other platforms or users to verify that the video was generated by artificial intelligence, even if it was uploaded from TikTok.
The feature is part of TikTok’s broader AI strategy. The platform aims to combine automation and creativity, allowing anyone to create dynamic content without complex software. AI Alive is an example of using AI not as a human replacement, but as a tool to enhance self-expression.
TikTok is expected to continue integrating generative capabilities into its products, especially within short-form videos and interactive formats.
