Trump invites lawsuits from SEGA and Xbox. The White House launched a gaming portal with MAGA clones of classic games
The US administration has launched an official website, Arcade.gov, featuring five arcade games stylized as classic retro titles with added political and ideological context. The promotional service used SEGA and Xbox identities.
The US administration has launched an official website, Arcade.gov, featuring five arcade games stylized as classic retro titles with added political and ideological context. The promotional service used SEGA and Xbox identities.
This is evidenced by posts on the official White House pages on social networks.
Arcade.gov features five games with modified game mechanics:
Flappy Bill is a variation of the popular mobile game Flappy Bird, in which a bald eagle maneuvers between monuments while holding a government bill in its beak.
Build the Wall is a game based on Tetris mechanics where players are asked to build a defensive wall on the border while being attacked by enemy characters.
Rio Run is an adaptation of the classic Snake, where the player, as a border guard, moves along the Rio Grande River and detains border violators for their subsequent deportation.
Supply Line is a Tapper-style arcade game about sorting healthy food for school lunches.
Trump Savings Tycoon is a Duck Hunt-based simulator focused on accumulating funds in children’s savings accounts.
The platform’s launch campaign featured a series of parody videos that mimicked the loading screens of popular gaming consoles, including Xbox and Nintendo. One of the promotional materials also used SEGA’s corporate font, replacing the brand name with the acronym «MAGA.»
The release has sparked debate among industry observers about the quality of the development and legal aspects. The use of recognizable gameplay mechanics and visual styles from the developers of Tetris, Flappy Bird, or Snake creates the basis for possible claims of intellectual property infringement. However, since the site is non-commercial and hosted on the official government domain «.gov», lawyers note that the project authors can refer to the norm of «fair use».
