Popular cryptocurrency wallet provider Trust Wallet has officially acknowledged the presence of a critical vulnerability in one version of its browser extension.
The incident came to light after prominent blockchain researcher ZachXBT posted a warning about massive user complaints about missing funds. According to him, the attackers used the exploit immediately after a recent software update, stealing millions of dollars from hundreds of victims in a short period of time.
The company identified the issue as affecting only version 2.68 of the extension, and urged users to immediately update to version 2.69, which already contains the necessary security fixes. Trust Wallet representatives emphasized that those who have not yet installed the update should not open the extension at all until the update is complete, so as not to put their assets at risk.
We've identified a security incident affecting Trust Wallet Browser Extension version 2.68 only. Users with Browser Extension 2.68 should disable and upgrade to 2.69.
