For some reason, these things are not essential for the majority of citizens, because it seems that we are talking about some personal data, and here one thousand hryvnias is given. And it is a huge mistake to neglect the security of one’s personal data», — said Korsun, who previously headed the cybercrime unit at the SBU, on the air of the Espresso TV channel.

According to him, personal data can become a commodity on the black market, and the very citizens who voluntarily provided it can suffer from their own actions.

«A person who gave his personal data, taking a thousand hryvnias, will be indignant tomorrow, from where the fraudsters know his data, send messages or „hacked“ the phone, stole money. In addition, a person’s data can be used in various criminal devices, re-registration of some obligations, they can also commit any cybercrime against those people», — Kostyantyn Korsun added.

He also reminded that the topic of personal data is considered extremely sensitive information in the EU.

«There is a social demand for the protection of personal data, so the governments of the EU countries are forced to react by introducing strict legislation. In Ukraine, there is legislation on personal data, but it does not work, because there are no key principles that are provided for in the EU — the independence of the regulator, the presence of levers of influence, etc. In Ukraine, all this exists only formally», — the expert noted.
