«This happened — I was replaced by AI. For three years, I collaborated with a small agency that was engaged in building security processes and other serious things. But their tone of voice in marketing was completely different — friendly, light, playful. I drew funny illustrations for them for each article,» the specialist says .
According to Kateryna, only 1–2 works were published per month. «The fee was symbolic, more of a tribute to the long collaboration than a financial interest,» she specifies.
But then, the designer said, there was silence. Two months without any messages. I didn’t even notice right away that «something was missing.» Today I went to their website and saw «this.» My drawings, chewed up by artificial intelligence, were pixelated and spat out into chaos that, apparently, only I can see. For most people, they look «almost the same» and that’s understandable, optimization is our everything. But that’s not the point…», the girl says.
Kateryna emphasizes: AI did not take away her job. «It took away something more important. Another opportunity for creativity. Communication. Pitching ideas. The opportunity to translate someone’s idea into an illustration that will then bring a smile to someone’s face. AI took away my joy. And I’m sad,» the specialist admits.
Under the expert’s post, IT experts are discussing copyright protection and the irreplaceability of human creativity with AI drawings.
«It’s time to think about signing some kind of copyright that prohibits using the work in any processing, or to set the price more expensive from the beginning and explain that you are giving away the copyright to your work, this is normal practice. The terms of cooperation are controlled not only by clients, form your terms of cooperation and this will be another lever when discussing the fee, that you can give in to some of your conditions, but for additional money. Take the situation that has developed as experience and boldly move on. Shit happens,» noted Digital Collage Artist Olga Klymenko.
Iryna Azarova, Project Manager, advises: «When they ask you back, multiply your price tag by 10. It’s not „if,“ but „when.“ And don’t do charity work anymore. It doesn’t matter how long your collaboration lasted. Your work as a true artist will now be a pleasure only for the chosen ones. And the solvent.»
