Ukrainian deftech company Twist Robotics has signed an agreement to establish a joint venture with Danish Vidar Industries. The partners will jointly produce Twist Robotics' Saker UAVs for the European market, including the Scout, Hetman, and Hunter models.
This is reported by Defender Media. Production is expected to begin within 3–6 months at facilities in Denmark, but the partners have not yet disclosed the exact amount of investment in launching the project.
In the first year of operation, the joint venture is to produce 12,000 drones. In the future, production volumes are planned to be adjusted and increased depending on demand in the European market. Currently, the companies are at the stage of planning production processes, resolving regulatory issues and preparing industrial facilities in Denmark.
«The main option is licensing production in Denmark. Additionally, obtaining an export license may be considered,» Twist Robotics notes, adding that the final mechanism of interaction between the parties will be determined a little later.
One of the key models planned to be produced under the partnership is the Saker Hunter. It is a multi-role fixed-wing aircraft capable of adapting to various combat roles — from reconnaissance, relay and electronic warfare to use as a kamikaze or decoy. The aircraft combines autonomous navigation, integrated AI modules and resistance to electronic warfare thanks to an optical navigation system that allows it to operate without GPS.
The Saker Hunter’s special feature is its air carrier function. It can transport and launch a swarm of two 5- or 7-inch FPV drones up to 30 km away. The drone itself has an operational range of up to 200 km, can stay in the air for up to 3 hours and carry up to 5 kg of payload. At the same time, its deployment time is up to 10 minutes.
Within the framework of the newly created joint venture, Ukrainian Twist Robotics will be responsible for technological development, product development and innovation implementation in Ukraine, while Vidar Industries will fully take over the production process, quality control and scaling.
Twist Robotics was founded in 2021. In addition to the well-known Saker line of drones, its key product portfolio includes the Obriy UAV mission simulator and the Oscar visual navigation module, which are currently actively used by the Ukrainian military in combat conditions.
