In Greece, a man was sentenced to 5 months in prison for subscribing to a pirated IPTV platform

In what appears to be an ominous "historic ruling" for people who watch content via illegal IPTV platforms, a person who subscribed to one such service was given a prison sentence in Greece.

In Greece, a local court decided to send a pirated IPTV subscriber to prison for five months, writes TorrentFreak.

In court, the man pleaded not guilty, saying that he did not know that subscribing to the IPTV service was illegal and did not understand where his subscription fees were going.

He also did not go to jail because under the Greek legal system, crimes that carry a 5-month sentence are usually suspended. This means that he will not go to prison unless he re-offends within a certain period of time.

In addition, Greece plans to introduce fines of 600 euros for viewing illegal IPTV services.
