U Mobile from Ukrtelecom: what tariffs does the new mobile operator offer, how much does communication cost and can you save money?

On September 15, Ukrtelecom launched the mobile operator U Mobile. It operates under the model of a virtual network operator (MVNO), that is, it does not have its own network of base stations and provides services through the infrastructure of Kyivstar. Only two basic tariffs were launched for subscribers — for 15 and 60 GB of mobile Internet, both with packages of minutes and SMS.

The main feature of U Mobile is the ability to pay for the connection in advance for several months or for a whole year. The longer the subscription period, the lower the monthly cost. The operator also offers a discount for porting a number from another operator and a package with home optical Internet.

We tell you how much U Mobile tariffs cost, what conditions apply to subscribers, where the connection works, and why Ukrtelecom needs a mobile service.

What is U Mobile and how does it work?

The new brand was launched on September 15, but the company itself is not a newcomer to the telecommunications market. Under U Mobile, TriMob LLC operates — the former mobile division of Ukrtelecom, which previously provided services under the 3Mob brand. In 2011, it was separated into a separate company, and pre-orders for U Mobile SIM cards were opened on August 27.

U Mobile is a virtual mobile operator, or MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator). This means that the company does not build its own network of base stations, but uses the infrastructure of another operator on the basis of a commercial agreement. The subscriber receives a SIM card under the U Mobile brand, but actually uses the partner’s network.

The official U Mobile website states that services in Ukraine are provided through the network of the national roaming partner, Kyivstar. Therefore, coverage depends on the availability of this operator’s signal.

You can choose a regular SIM card or eSIM to connect. New subscribers are no longer connected to 3Mob tariffs — instead, they are offered the U Mobile line. Existing 3Mob customers keep their numbers, tariffs, balance and connected services, but can switch to new offers if they wish.

What tariffs does U Mobile offer?

For private subscribers, the operator has launched the "Simka" line. It currently has two tariffs — "Simka 15" and "Simka 60." They differ in the amount of mobile Internet, while the package of minutes and SMS is the same.

Service "Seven 15" "Seven 60"
Mobile Internet 15 GB 60 GB
Calls within Ukraine 500 minutes 500 minutes
SMS 15 15
Payment for 1 month 360 UAH 400 UAH
Payment for 3 months 900 UAH 1050 UAH
Payment for 6 months 1500 UAH 1950 UAH
Payment for 12 months 2700 UAH 3600 UAH

Thus, if you pay for services monthly, "Seven 15" will cost 360 UAH, and "Seven 60" — 400 UAH. When paying for a year, the cost of one month is reduced to 225 and 300 UAH, respectively.

Is it really profitable to pay for a year?

According to the operator’s calculations, an annual subscription allows you to save compared to paying each month separately. For Simka 15, twelve monthly payments of UAH 360 would cost UAH 4,320. An annual subscription costs UAH 2,700, which is a difference of UAH 1,620.

For Simka 60, twelve payments of UAH 400 each would cost UAH 4,800. If paid a year in advance, the amount would be UAH 3,600 — a savings of UAH 1,200, or 25%. According to the operator, this pricing model is permanent and not a temporary promotion.

There is another feature: U Mobile charges services by calendar month — from the first to the last day. The company explains that the four-week billing model common on the market results in 13 payments during the year, while Simka charges 12.

When does the paid package start working?

After activating the SIM card, you can use the connection immediately, however, the prepaid tariff period begins only on the first day of the following month.

For example, if you activate the card on November 2, the connection will be available immediately, and the paid period will begin on December 1. This is worth considering when connecting, especially if you plan to switch to U Mobile with your number or purchase a card in advance.

15% discount for number porting

U Mobile offers a 15% discount on the first paid period in two cases:

  • if the subscriber transfers a number from another mobile operator;

  • if you pass identification when purchasing a starter package in the U Mobile online store.

Number porting is free, and you can apply online. That is, you don’t have to give up your usual number and tell everyone your new contact details to switch.

When connecting, you can also choose a number, including the code 091, or leave your own if you already use 3Mob services.

U Mobile and home internet: "Optics+Simka" package

A separate direction is the "Optics+Simka" package, which combines the "Simka 60" mobile tariff with home optical Internet with a speed of up to 1 Gbps.

Both services are paid for on one bill. With a 12-month subscription, the package costs from 350 UAH per month.

For Ukrtelecom, this is a way to combine mobile communications and home Internet into one offer. For the subscriber, it is an opportunity to receive two services from one provider, although the actual benefit will depend on the availability of optical connection and mobile traffic needs.

Where does U Mobile work and what are the restrictions?

Since U Mobile does not have its own network, the quality of communication depends on the partner’s infrastructure. In Ukraine, this is the Kyivstar network, so before connecting, it is worth checking whether there is stable coverage in the places where you use your phone most often.

Abroad, the options are more limited: in international roaming, U Mobile can only use 2G and 3G networks.

This is an important nuance for those who travel frequently or rely on high-speed mobile Internet outside of Ukraine.

What happened to 3Mob?

U Mobile is a new brand of LLC "TriMob", the sole founder of which is "Ukrtelecom". "Ukrtelecom", the largest fixed-line operator in Ukraine, is part of Rinat Akhmetov’s SCM group.

The company’s mobile business has a long history. In 2005, Ukrtelecom received Ukraine’s first 3G license. Over time, TryMob gradually lost its own network infrastructure.

In 2019, the company returned almost all frequencies to the state, and in 2025, it transferred the last ones in Kyiv to Vodafone Ukraine. Since 2016, most 3Mob subscribers have been served in the Vodafone network under national roaming conditions.

Now the company is developing services under the U Mobile brand, using Kyivstar’s infrastructure.

Is there room for a new operator on the Ukrainian market?

U Mobile’s exit comes against the backdrop of changing consumer habits. TriMob Director Oleg Boyko explained that the new tariffs were developed primarily to meet the need for mobile internet: people are increasingly communicating in instant messengers and making calls less often.

According to the operator, mobile traffic consumption increased by 31% over the year, while the average call duration is 9.9 minutes per day.

For comparison: according to Kyivstar Group data for the first quarter of 2026, an average Kyivstar subscriber used 14.9 GB of mobile Internet per month and talked on the phone for 297 minutes. This is approximately the same 10 minutes per day.

At the same time, according to the data provided in the Glavkom article, 40% of Ukrainians have two or more SIM cards. However, the total number of active SIM cards in 2025 decreased by 1.4 million — from 48.8 million to 47.4 million.

For a new operator, this means that it is not enough to simply enter the market with a new brand. You need to convince people to switch to its services or add another SIM card.
