Ilya S. was detained on December 26, and the next day the Warsaw court chose a preventive measure of detention for him. The man had a device for jamming radio waves, which operates in frequency ranges reserved for aviation communications and navigation, writes the Polish publication Rzeczpospolita.
The man's behavior aroused suspicion among security officers at Warsaw's Okecie Airport. He sat at a table for six hours, ordering coffee, snacks, and setting up his laptop, all while carrying a wide range of equipment.
After his arrest, Ilya S. was unable to explain what he was doing at the airport or why he had a jammer. According to the publication's sources, he refused to answer about his status - profession, wealth or criminal record. The only thing he said was that he lives in Canada.
The Polish prosecutor's office believes that the arrest was necessary to give experts time to examine the contents of the Ukrainian's equipment — his laptop and phone, and above all, the jammer itself. They will determine whether it is a simple device available in detective shops or something more technologically advanced.
