In the next two to three months, Ukraine may receive laser weapons for full-scale use against enemy air targets.
This was stated by Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Andriy Lebedenko during a briefing, UNIAN reports .
«It (laser weapons — Ed.) is already able to shoot down FPVs today, it is already working on „shaheeds“ today. And this is the story of the next 2-3 months — we will have the same means that will allow us to hit air attack vehicles even better than machine guns,» Lebedenko emphasized.
According to him, both teams within the Armed Forces of Ukraine and private Ukrainian companies are working on such laser systems.
The general added that this is a truly promising direction and «today it is all working out.»
He also reported during the briefing that as many as seven Ukrainian manufacturers are currently working on developing domestic guided aerial bombs (GABs).
Some products of this type, as reported by «Left Bank», already have turbojet engines, which allow them to increase their range to 100-200 km.
«This is the restoration of old systems and effective capabilities to support our ground forces with our aviation,» Lebedenko noted.
It is also known that Ukrainian engineers have developed a new laser weapon called Sunray, which is capable of effectively shooting down enemy drones while remaining invisible to the enemy.
dev.ua wrote that the technology company BlueBird Tech is joining forces with one of the leading research and design bureaus in Ukraine. The key goal of this partnership is the development and scaling up of mass production of domestic guided aerial bombs (GABs).
