The Armed Forces of Ukraine are developing an AI system called "Marichka," which will even allow secret documents to be uploaded. Why do the military need it?

As Suspilne reports, citing a briefing by the head of the institute, Yuriy Klyat, this closed neural network will help commanders make decisions faster.

According to the head of the institute, regiment or brigade commanders, according to the standards, can spend from 6 to 12 hours to make a decision. To do this, they process about 20 documents, but the AI ​​system developed by the institute can reduce the decision-making time to minutes.

«The system, similar to ChatGPT, allows you to centrally collect information, calculate the ratio of combat potentials, and model possible options for action. The final decision will remain with the commander,» said Yuriy Klyat.

Among the system’s capabilities are:

• data collection, processing and verification;
• automatic calculation of the ratio of forces and means;
• calculation of actions, resources and losses;
• simulation of the situation on an interactive map;
• informing about changes in the situation.

The name for the system was chosen in honor of a patriotic Ukrainian female name. As representatives of the institute said at a briefing, during the verification of the system’s operation, «Marichka» performed tasks on test data.

It is reported that testing and training of the neural network will continue. The developers are also working on protecting information channels and uploading orders and documents marked «for official use» and «secret» into the system.

The next step is to operate the system with the highest secrecy levels. Other characteristics of «Marichka» are not disclosed for security reasons.

«Marichka» will contribute to improving and increasing the efficiency of the commander’s work and the overall command post at the brigade, army corps, and grouping level,» Klyat emphasized.
