Lithuanian deep tech company Unmanned Defense Systems begins operations in Ukraine through newly established joint venture UDS Ukraine

Lithuanian technology company Unmanned Defense Systems (UDS) is opening a representative office in Ukraine. The main goal of creating the joint venture UDS Ukraine is to have a permanent presence in the country for direct cooperation with the Defense Forces, support of systems on the front line, training of operators, and integration into the Ukrainian defense technology ecosystem.
UDS develops integrated unmanned solutions for reconnaissance, surveillance, detection and targeting (ISTAR), as well as for precision strike and combat control.
Unlike the traditional model of external supplies, UDS Ukraine is being built as a full-fledged player in the Ukrainian market. The Ukrainian team will directly support the use of unmanned systems in units, generate feedback from the front, and reduce the time from the emergence of a need on the battlefield to its technical implementation.
"We do not want to be a foreign company that simply sells its systems in Ukraine. We are building UDS Ukraine as a Ukrainian company — one that understands the Ukrainian market, works directly with the military, and is part of the Ukrainian defense technology industry," emphasized Stepan Veselovsky, CEO and co-owner of UDS Ukraine.
From space satellites to defense software
The founders of UDS are experts with experience in high-tech and space technologies. Co-founder Vytianis Buzas previously headed Lithuania's first national satellite mission, LituanicaSAT-1, and later became co-founder and CEO of NanoAvionics, one of the leading European manufacturers of small satellites (in 2022, 77% of the company's shares were acquired by the Norwegian group KONGSBERG for €65 million). The UDS team was also joined by Žilvinas Kvedaravičius, who was responsible for NanoAvionics' international development for over seven years.
“Space has taught us to think at the level of systems, not individual products. A satellite can only work when the hardware and software, communications and mission control functions as a single whole. We apply the same systems approach in defense technologies, but with a much faster development cycle,” explained Žilvinas Kvedaravicius.
UDS technology ecosystem
The UDS unmanned complex is built on a single software platform with an open architecture, which allows it to be easily integrated with other combat control systems. The line includes:
FORECASTER is an unmanned platform for reconnaissance, surveillance and target acquisition (ISTAR);
AVENGER 5 — long-range strike UAV for high-precision strikes;
HAULER is a multi-purpose copter with a modular payload;
SWARM C2 is a software platform for automated control and coordination of a group of UAVs.
