A British company with Ukrainian roots, UFORCE, has shown a new attack drone «Bucha» with a flight range of up to 200 km.
According to Military, the development was presented at the defense tech job fair «Arsenal of Talents.» A company engineer told the publication that «Bucha» can operate through various communication channels depending on the front line, including Starlink.
The key idea of this system is not only in the range, but also in the method of combat use. The company is laying out a scenario in which drones will be launched in groups, and the connection between them will be built on the principle of a mesh network. One device in such a group should act as a command repeater: instead of a warhead, it will receive an additional battery and will enhance the work of the strike versions.
The basic version of the Buchi carries a warhead weighing 5.5 kg. For launch, a compact guide with a starting powder charge is used, rather than a pneumatic catapult. The company explains that the final concept involves launching several devices in a row from one installation, after which one pilot or a group of operators take turns connecting to them and guiding them to the target.
The system is currently undergoing modifications and flight tests. The next stage should be combat tests. The estimated cost of the complex will depend on the type of communication, but the company expects it to be approximately $10,000-12,000.
In parallel, UFORCE has a simplified version of this solution. It has a 3.5 kg warhead and a range of 100-120 km. According to the developers, these drones have already reached pre-series production and have already undergone combat use.
In a broader context, Bucha has become another product in the portfolio of UFORCE, which develops air, ground and sea unmanned systems. In early March, the company reported that its market valuation had exceeded $1 billion, and the structure itself united nine Ukrainian defense enterprises and attracted $50 million in investment from international funds.
Previously, dev.ua wrote about how the Ukrainian company Vyriy plans to begin production of the Veresen drone in April, which is currently undergoing combat testing.
