Ukraine is actively negotiating to obtain licenses for the production of long-range weapons on its territory, in particular French SCALP cruise missiles.
This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister for Innovation, Development of Education, Science and Technology Mykhailo Fedorov during a joint briefing with Danish Defense Minister Jeppe Bruus, Ukrinform reports.
According to the official, the topic of transferring licenses for the production of SCALP missiles was raised during the recent visit of the President of Ukraine to France. Detailed discussions are currently underway with both the French government and the manufacturing company.
"I can say that during our president's visit to France, there was a very good conversation with Macron about the possibility of sharing licenses for SCALP missiles to our country, and now the conversation continues with both the government and the company regarding this, all the details are being clarified. There is indeed progress there, but it is too early to say yet, because this is a difficult process regarding intellectual property, opening production in general, and so on, there is a certain bureaucracy regarding this," Fedorov noted.
He also added that after the G7 summit and the adoption of the declaration on the development of air defense, relevant consultations on arms licensing are also ongoing with American partners at the NSDC level. In addition to legal aspects, there are a number of technical challenges related to the supply of components and system assembly.
Despite expectations for Western technology, Ukraine continues to scale up production of its own missiles and long-range strike systems. Fedorov stressed the critical importance of financial support for Ukrainian defense-tech developers from allies.
We would like to remind you that the so-called "Danish model" of financing is currently being actively implemented, which involves the allocation of funds by the governments of partner countries for the purchase of weapons directly from Ukrainian manufacturers. This allows for reduced logistics and faster provision of the Defense Forces with the necessary equipment, supporting the local military-industrial complex.
