Ukraine ranks sixth in the world in terms of the number of account data leaks. Which countries are “leading” in the unpleasant ranking
In the third quarter of 2026, Ukraine rose rapidly in the list of countries with the highest number of data leaks and compromised accounts — from 47th place in the previous quarter, it is now in 6th place.
In the third quarter of 2026, Ukraine rose rapidly in the list of countries with the highest number of data leaks and compromised accounts — from 47th place in the previous quarter, it is now in 6th place.
This is reported by TechRadar, citing research data from Surfshark.
According to new research from Surfshark, over 121.8 million online accounts were compromised worldwide between July and September 2026. This is a 13,2% increase from the previous quarter.
The most dramatic changes occurred in the United Kingdom, as the number of data leaks from its citizens' accounts more than doubled to 5.8 million. Thus, the United Kingdom became the country with the largest number of data leaks in Europe.
The publication notes that the recent period has been full of cyberattacks on British organizations: for example, in late July, the ExfilSquad group announced that it had stolen the contact details of more than 100,000 British police and internal affairs officers from a government database. The same group also announced that about 600,000 records from the online services of the British Ministry of Education had been compromised.
As for Ukraine, the publication reminded that in the Microsoft report for 2026, our country ranked first in Europe and third in the world in terms of the number of cyberattacks in the first half of the year.
The Ukrainian CERT-UA also reviewed about a hundred incidents directed against citizens between January and September, and their number also increased significantly compared to last year — many of these incidents involved phishing to gain access to Telegram and Signal.
“We see that attacks vary by country as attackers seek out the most attractive targets, sometimes for financial gain and sometimes for political gain,” commented Surfshark Chief Security Officer Thomas Stamoulis.
Meanwhile, in the global anti-rating, the US remains the country with the largest number of data leaks — this statistic concerned 38.1 million accounts in the US. Next on the list are Brazil (7 million), the UK (5.8 million), India (5.5 million) and Australia (3.1 million), which formed the top five “leaders” of the global anti-rating.
