According to Militarnyi, «hundreds of thousands of dollars» were invested in the project, and the development lasted for over a year. STING launches without a catapult from any flat surface, quickly gains altitude and goes to intercept; if necessary, the operator can reorient the device to another target or cancel the launch. The effective range of the «Shahedi» is claimed to be up to 25 km. Structurally, it is a quadcopter with a protective dome, where the warhead and camera are located; the device is compatible with any FPV station, and works most stably with a ground control station. The optional Hornet Vision digital system improves guidance in the dark.
In four months of serial production, the team reports that STING has helped shoot down over a thousand enemy UAVs; almost half of them were eliminated in October. The scaling of production allows thousands of devices to be produced every month, and dozens, sometimes hundreds, of Shaheds are destroyed every night thanks to their use.
Operator training takes place at the Night Hornets center. The course lasts up to three days and covers pre-flight training, interception tactics, working with a ground station, and actions in non-standard situations. The deployment of the complex takes up to 15 minutes, which allows for rapid reinforcement of air defense in vulnerable areas.
STING is designed as a relatively inexpensive tool for intercepting stray munitions and unloading anti-aircraft systems at close range. The Wild Hornets group positions the complex as a supplement to air defense, which quickly increases the density of counteraction to massive attacks.
Previously, dev.ua wrote about how the Ukrainian company Wild Hornets, which produces drones for the Defense Forces, including STING interceptor drones, reported that its products caused the Russian army losses of about $2 billion.
