The decision to allocate land in the safe region of Ukraine was made on September 9. The Rheinmetall plant will produce shells for the needs of the Defense Forces.
This was announced by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Denys Shmyhalyu during the international defense exhibition DSEI in London, where he met with the head of the German company Rheinmetall, Armin Papperger.
"Since the last conversation, we have finalized the procedures for launching a new joint production. On September 9, land was allocated in a safe region of Ukraine, where a new Rheinmetall projectile manufacturing plant will be built for the needs of the Defense Forces," the head of the Ukrainian defense ministry said.
In addition, the parties discussed the development of capabilities for the repair and production of armored vehicles — in particular, new models of equipment from the Rheinmetall line, which can strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities.
There is also the issue of joint development of air defense systems: the goal is to improve solutions for more effective counteraction to enemy drones.
The German defense concern Rheinmetall planned to open three enterprises in Ukraine : they will specialize in the production and repair of air defense systems, the repair and assembly of armored vehicles, and the production of ammunition.
Earlier, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte reported that the construction of Rheinmetall's second military plant in Ukraine is nearing completion.
Rheinmetall already has an active equipment repair plant in Ukraine, but Armin Papperger is dissatisfied with Ukrainian bureaucracy , which, in his opinion, slows down the speed of building Rheinmetall enterprises in Ukraine.
