CPO and iOS Software Engineer Roman Bambura created the app to help people cope with anxiety, overcome insomnia, and find focus. Lumia Aqua doesn’t just play recordings, it generates sound and graphics in real time, and the user actually becomes a co-author of the audio and visual experience according to their current mental state.

What Lumia Aqua offers

Lumia Aqua is not just another background noise app, the developer assures. It is a scientifically based set of audio tools designed to correct your inner state in real time.

«The core audio engine is built on five years of experience in military settings, where acoustic therapy was used to alleviate symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among both military and civilian populations in Ukraine. Developed during airstrikes and in the safety of shelters, this toolkit was created with one unwavering mission: to help you find peace, grounding, and silence even in the most challenging times,» the description on the App Store states.

The app has 9 interactive sound therapy cards that will help:

  • stop the flow of thoughts (396 Hz);

  • overcome anxiety (174 Hz);

  • relieve fatigue (432 Hz);

  • overcome fatigue (528 Hz);

  • reveal deep focus (741 Hz);

  • start the creative flow (440 Hz);

  • emotionally recover (639 Hz);

  • gain mental clarity (852 Hz);

  • achieve deep silence (963 Hz).

Additionally, Lumia Aqua lets you dynamically mix audio and follow built-in bioluminescent breathing instructions (such as Box Breathing and 4-7-8 for deep relaxation).

Technical details

On Reddit, Roman Bambura shared the technical details.

The developer used Metal to create custom, fluid animations of bioluminescent rings expanding and guiding the user through breathing patterns (such as «Square Breathing» and 4-7-8). This allows the interface to run smoothly at high frame rates while still looking incredible, the IT guy explains.

He also wrote his own audio mixing engine, so users don’t just listen — they actively create music themselves.

«Users can dynamically mix ambient pads, water drop sounds, and other acoustic elements in real time, adjusting the exact intensity of the soundscape to what they need right now,» adds Roman.

Using Theta Drone technology, the core of the audio engine relies on mathematically tuned frequencies (from 174 Hz for sleep to 963 Hz for deep meditation).

«Imposing these specific Hz values on the Theta drones required careful audio processing to ensure that the output sound remained clean and therapeutic, without clipping or distortion,» the developer notes.

Additionally, breathing logic is closely tied to both Metal’s visual effects and audio engine, smoothly adapting the user’s physical response (inhale, hold, exhale) to the acoustic environment to naturally lower heart rate and relieve panic.

«Creating an app focused on improving quality of life and actively reducing stress has been a huge passion project for me. Finding how to combine the clinical side of sound therapy with the technical side of Swift, Metal, and real-time sound manipulation has been a cool learning experience.»

Lumia Aqua is available for iOS only. It offers subscription options: monthly — $1.99 for Ukrainians, $4.99 for full access for US users, and annual — $6.99 for Ukrainians and $39.99 (includes a 3-day free trial) for full access in the US.
