Ukrainian company Stetman will launch 360 communication satellites into orbit despite the loss of its founder

Ukrainian technology company Stetman continues preparations to deploy its own satellite constellation of 360 devices in low-Earth orbit (LEO). The launches of the first 120 satellites are planned for 2027 in conjunction with the American company SpaceX.
This is reported by the publication Data Centre Dynamics.
The project is focused on creating a communications network resistant to electronic warfare (EW) at an altitude of 550 kilometers. The satellite network is being developed primarily to meet the needs of the government and the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and in the future to provide access to allies.
During one of her first meetings in her new position, Kateryna Dyachenko met with Jesper Stahl Hein, Director of Special Defense Projects at the Danish company GomSpace. The parties confirmed the continuity of Stetman’s activities, the preservation of the partnership within the UASAT joint venture, and joint plans for the deployment of a satellite group and the construction of a plant in Ukraine.
«Satellite communications have become a critical factor for both civil society and national security in times of crisis. Through UASAT, we combine Ukrainian operational experience with GomSpace’s expertise in space technology to create a sovereign capability that will strengthen resilience and long-term independence,» said Kateryna Dyachenko.
The total cost of the satellite constellation, software, launches and maintenance exceeds 1 billion euros (about $1.13 billion). The project is being financed by private capital in several stages. The first batch of 120 satellites is planned to be launched in 2027 using SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket, which is currently the most cost-effective solution. The full deployment of the network is expected to be completed by 2030.
The need for its own sovereign satellite communications has increased significantly after the disruptions in the Starlink network during the Ukrainian Armed Forces' defense operations. Instead, Stetman is actively working on creating its own UASAT satellite network, which should compete with Starlink in terms of cost and characteristics.
