Ukrainian Council of Arms Manufacturers Warns of Consequences of Changes in Defense Procurement, Which Could Cost the Army a Lot
The Ukrainian Council of Arms Manufacturers called on the Ministry of Defense to ensure the continuity of defense procurement amid changes in the system and warned of possible negative consequences in the event of rash steps.
The Ukrainian Council of Arms Manufacturers called on the Ministry of Defense to ensure the continuity of defense procurement amid changes in the system and warned of possible negative consequences in the event of rash steps.
The press release of the Council of Armaments emphasizes that «any personnel, structural or procedural changes should not affect the continuity of providing the Defense Forces with weapons and military equipment.»
The association recalled that the insufficient level of contracting remains a key problem for the defense industry, as, according to market participants, up to 25% of available production capacity is currently contracted.
«A contract that is not concluded today cannot be compensated for by an instant increase in funding in a few months. Delays in contracting in August pose a risk to supply volumes in the fall and winter,» the Council of Arms Manufacturers noted.
They also added that for the industry, a long period without sufficient internal orders means the risk of losing engineers and production teams, reducing production lines, reducing working capital and investment opportunities.
The Ukrainian Council of Gunsmiths emphasizes that they do not tell the state exactly what the procurement model and procedures should be, but ask it to consider the possible negative results of changes to the system, which will lead to irreparable consequences.
«The result is important for the market: the military must receive the necessary weapons and military equipment uninterruptedly and on time, and Ukrainian manufacturers must receive a sufficient volume of orders to meet these needs today and maintain the ability to produce tomorrow,» the association emphasized.
