Ukrainian miltech is entering a new level of international cooperation — this time with a focus on scaling production outside the country.
Finnish defense group Summa Defence Plc and Ukrainian company TAF Industries have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that envisages possible cooperation in the production of drones in Finland. This is the «Build with Ukraine» initiative, which aims to outsource some of the defense production to safe partner countries.
The document is not currently binding, but sets a framework for further negotiations. The parties are considering the possibility of establishing production facilities in Finland, as well as other formats of cooperation — including a potential joint venture. Final decisions have not yet been made and will depend on the results of negotiations and agreements.
The signing took place during the TAF Industries Demo Day in the Kyiv region, where the Ukrainian company demonstrated its developments to partners and representatives of allied countries. According to TAF Industries CEO Volodymyr Zinovsky, integration into the European defense ecosystem is one of the company’s key priorities, and combining combat experience with the industrial capabilities of partners will allow strengthening the defense capabilities of both Ukraine and its allies.
Summa Defence Plc also emphasizes the strategic nature of the partnership. Director of New Technologies Jussi Holopainen notes that the collaboration combines Finnish engineering school with Ukrainian battlefield-proven solutions and has the potential to strengthen the security infrastructure of Northern Europe.
The Build with Ukraine initiative involves creating manufacturing hubs in partner countries, allowing Ukrainian defense technologies to scale without the risks of war. In return, partners gain access to practical combat experience and proven innovations.
TAF Industries today produces over 80,000 drones per month and has a portfolio of over 30 types of defense products — from FPV and reconnaissance drones to electronic warfare systems and intelligent solutions for the modern battlefield. The company operates under a vertically integrated model, combining its own R&D, distributed manufacturing and engineering team.
Previously, dev.ua reported that Summa plans to launch mass production of various types of drones in its country in the first half of 2025, with a significant part of the products being intended for Ukraine.
Also, TAF Industries and German manufacturer THYRA GmbH will jointly produce interceptor drones in Germany.
