This week, Ukraine and the EU signed two important agreements that open the way for our companies to European grants. Now, Ukrainian developers will be able to attract funding for both scientific research and the creation of the latest military technologies, as well as for the rapid expansion of their production capacities.
The agreements signed this week during the Ukraine-EU Defense Industry Forum open Ukrainian defense companies to access grants for R&D under the European Defence Fund (EDF) and grants for scaling up production capabilities under the European Defence Industry Programme (EDIP).
Separately, within the framework of the European program, there is a special fund for supporting Ukraine — the Country Support Instrument — with a total budget of 300 million euros. Most of these funds, namely 260 million euros, will be directed directly to increasing defense production capacities.
The remaining €35.3 million will be allocated to innovation development through the BraveTech EU USI grant program. As part of this initiative, the Brave1 defense cluster will provide grants of up to €200,000 for technology projects that already have a working prototype or are at an advanced stage of development. Importantly, such funding can fully cover up to 100% of all costs of participants to implement their ideas.
«The BraveTech EU program within the EDF, which became the first joint program for the development of defense innovations, is gaining momentum — and already includes the European initiative DefTech Forges and the special Brave1 grant program for Ukrainian defense companies. The next stage is grants for Ukrainian and EU companies within the Ukraine Support Instrument,» said the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov.
The agreements are currently awaiting ratification by the Verkhovna Rada.
