Ukrainian military destroys russian "Storm" UAV: what is known about the new drone

The Ukrainian military shot down a Russian reconnaissance drone «Storm» with a «General Chereshnya AIR» interceptor drone. This is one of the least known Russian UAVs.
According to Military, the interception was carried out by fighters of the «Posipaki» unit from the 39th anti-aircraft missile regiment, using the «General Chereshnya AIR» interceptor drone. The manufacturer of the interceptor published a video and identified the target as a «Sarych-2», however, the recording shows a different hull shape, typical of the «Storm».
What exactly is known about this reconnaissance UAV? The «Storm» is designed according to the «flying wing» scheme and, according to the Russian side, can carry optics with a 30 or 40-fold zoom. It is also credited with resistance to electronic warfare due to operation on radio frequencies of a non-standard range and the ability to fly along a route without satellite navigation. In case of loss of communication, the device allegedly turns on the «return to home» program: it turns around, follows a given route and descends by parachute at a certain point.
From a practical point of view, destroying the Storm is important as a minus for the enemy’s «eyes.» Reconnaissance drones search for positions and equipment, adjust artillery, and help plan strikes, so knocking them out of the air disrupts the «detection-strike» chain and reduces the quality of intelligence in the direction.
The first mentions of the use of the Storm date back to December 2024, and Russian sources wrote about its «more active» use in March 2025. In November 2025, Russian media claimed that these devices were «massively represented» in the Sever and Vostok groups and were used to adjust fire.
Previously, dev.ua wrote about how the Ukrainian defense-tech company General Chereshnya developed a new interceptor drone, General Chereshnya AIR Speed. As the company notes, this is a separate development of the General Chereshnya AIR line of interceptor drones.
