Full-Stack developer Oleg Zheliznyk created an online version of the popular card game "I Believe — I Don't Believe." For the IT guy, this project was interesting not only for its code: he tried to approach it more from a product thinking perspective.
"Recently, my friends and I were playing the card game "I Believe - I Don't Believe", and at some point I had a simple thought: why not transfer this game online? That's how my small pet project appeared - the online version of "I Believe - I Don't Believe", - said Oleg Zheliznyk on LinkedIn.
Simple rules and product thinking
The rules of the web version completely reproduce the classic mechanics.
Players take turns laying out one or more cards face up and announcing their face value (they do not have to tell the truth).
The next player decides: to believe or to say "I don't believe."
If the previous player lied, he takes the cards from the table, but if he told the truth, the one who questioned him takes the cards.
The first player to completely get rid of their cards wins.
According to the developer, the project was an opportunity for him to go beyond pure coding and try his hand at being a product manager. Oleg completely independently developed the concept, error handling logic, constraints, rules, and user interface (UI/UX) design.
AI assistants and technology stack
While creating the game, Oleg actively used AI-assisted coding tools — in particular, ChatGPT and Claude Code, which allowed him to speed up code writing and testing.
