In the United States, 33-year-old Ukrainian Victoria Dubranova has been charged with alleged ties to Russian hacking groups. She was extradited to the United States earlier this year.
According to the US Department of Justice, Dubranov is accused of collaborating with two groups: CyberArmyofRussia_Reborn (CARR) and NoName057(16), writes Bloomberg.
The statement said that the CARR group was founded, funded and controlled by the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, known as the GRU. The group has claimed responsibility for hundreds of cyberattacks around the world, including attacks against critical infrastructure in the United States.
“The GRU is increasingly using willing accomplices to disguise its involvement in destabilizing physical and cyberattacks in Europe and the United States,” commented John Hultqvist, principal analyst at Google’s Threat Analysis Group.
The statement claims that NoName is a state project created by a Russian presidential decree in 2018. The group has claimed responsibility for hundreds of cyberattacks, mostly DDoS attacks. Its victims include government agencies, financial institutions, and critical infrastructure such as state railways and ports.
If found guilty, Dubranova faces up to 27 years in prison.
The US State Department is also offering a reward of up to $10 million for information on individuals associated with CARR and NoName.
The US and Europol are looking for a hacker from Ukraine who organized cyberattacks on several hundred companies around the world. They are ready to pay millions of dollars for information that will help find him
