The national postal operator Ukrposhta has announced the launch of its own aviation security service. The main goal of the initiative is to secure international shipments, minimize delays at the border, and speed up parcel processing at terminals and customs.
This was announced by the General Director of Ukrposhta, Ihor Smilyansky.
Today, the company uses 159 air routes to exchange mail with 230 countries and territories around the world through key air hubs in London, Frankfurt, Warsaw, Riga, Chisinau and other European cities. Over 90% of Ukrposhta parcels are delivered abroad within 24 hours, however, additional checks by foreign security services sometimes cause delays.
"It is very disappointing when, due to a question about 1-5 parcels, an entire 20-ton truck is stopped at the airport or at the border, and thousands of parcels are delayed for 1-2 days due to checks for dangerous goods. For a Ukrainian entrepreneur, such a delay is a relationship with the buyer and a rating on the marketplace. Our own aviation security service will ensure that there are as few such cases as possible," Smilyansky noted.
Specialists of the new service have undergone special training under the guidance of experts from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) on the formation of risk profiles and the detection of prohibited items.
The system works in close cooperation with the State Customs Service of Ukraine, not replacing its functions, but supplementing control.
In addition, Smilyansky noted that after the launch of the aviation security service, the company is preparing "pleasant surprises" for its regular and trusted customers.
