SBU discovered radioactive hazard in the wreckage of a new modification of the Russian drone "Geran-2"

Counterintelligence and investigators of the Security Service of Ukraine have detected an increased radiation background on the fragments of a missile that the Russian military installed on a modified Geran-2 attack drone. The enemy drone attacked the Chernihiv region on the night of April 7, 2026.
As reported by the SBU press service, fragments of an R-60 air-to-air missile were discovered near the village of Kamka. The Russian occupation forces began using such missiles during massive attacks to destroy Ukrainian aircraft and helicopters that intercept enemy drones.
During radiation reconnaissance directly near the wreckage of the drone with the missile, a gamma radiation level of 12 μSv/h was recorded. This figure significantly exceeds the natural radiation background and poses a direct threat to human health. The warhead of the missile has already been neutralized and transported to a specialized radioactive waste storage facility.
The examination confirmed that the warhead of the Russian missile contains destructive elements made of depleted uranium (isotopes of uranium-235 and uranium-238).

The special services urged citizens to be extremely careful when detecting any debris from military equipment and under no circumstances approach them.
«The greatest danger is posed by damaged or burned ammunition, as they can emit radioactive dust that is dangerous to people and the environment,» the SBU emphasized.
Currently, investigators of the Security Service are conducting a pre-trial investigation in criminal proceedings under Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of the laws and customs of war).
