As of early June, there were 108 certified demining operators operating in Ukraine, helping to increase the volume of safely cleared areas by almost 50% compared to last year.
This was announced during a roundtable discussion by Colonel Oleg Shuvarsky, head of the mine action department, the website of the Ministry of Defense reports .
"There are already five National Standards in the field of mine action in Ukraine, and the process of demining quality control has been significantly intensified," said Colonel Oleg Shuvarsky.
According to the colonel, the Ministry of Defense, in cooperation with other departments, is taking measures to increase the number of demining quality groups. Since the beginning of 2025, inspections have already been carried out at 241 sites, with a total area of 32 km².
The potentially contaminated area in Ukraine is 139,000 km², of which 14,000 km² are water areas. However, due to hostilities, humanitarian demining activities can currently be carried out on only 31,000 km².
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine announced the holding of the first auctions for clearing areas of explosive elements. In particular, we are talking about 600 hectares of land in the Kharkiv region, which belong to the Yuriev Institute of Plant Growing of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences.
The Humanitarian Center divided the large area into two auctions: 389.7 hectares with a starting price for demining of UAH 30.8 million and 215 hectares with a starting price of UAH 14.5 million. As a result, four mine action operators came to each auction, and the final bid price for both areas dropped almost threefold — from UAH 45.3 million to UAH 16 million.
"These are the first auctions when we split one site into several auctions. This approach allows us to attract a larger number of operators, increase competition, and most importantly, accelerate the demining of large areas. A total of 5 operators came to both auctions, competing in the auctions until the last one. At one of the auctions, we had a price reduction of almost 3.5 times," said Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine Ihor Bezkaravayny.
Since the beginning of 2025, 30 auctions have been held for the demining of agricultural lands with a total area of 5.37 thousand hectares. The final cost of the works according to the results of the auctions amounted to 336.6 million UAH.
As a reminder, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported that the first heavy remote demining complex "GART 5100" has successfully passed the state certification procedure. "GART 5100" is designed to neutralize mines and other explosive objects by detonation or mechanical destruction.
