Digital checks are being launched in Ukraine: how the new state program "eCheck" works

Ukraine has launched a pilot project called «eCheck» — a state program for electronic checks in banking. At the time of testing, both checks — digital and paper — are available to buyers. However, currently, electronic checks do not have the same legal force.
The service is being introduced in stages, the Ministry of Digital Affairs reports. It is currently available to clients of PrivatBank, FUIB, VST bank, and monobank, and you can get an e-Check in Aurora, Fora, Auchan retail chains, as well as at Ukrnafta gas stations.
This will help businesses save money and help the environment: about UAH 630 million is spent annually on paper checks alone, 90% of which are not recyclable because they contain toxic substances (BPA). In 2024, 9.49 billion checks were issued in Ukraine (+20.9%).
For shoppers, the digital receipt will be available in the banking app after paying with a card, either in-store or online. It appears where you already view your spending.
Buyers choose the format of the receipt themselves — digital or paper. The service works in parallel with regular receipts and is completely voluntary.
At the same time, monobank emphasized: «Currently, electronic checks do not have the same legal force as paper checks. But scaling up the initiative creates the prerequisites for reducing paper document flow, simplifying accounting processes, and developing digital services for customers.»
eCheck is being implemented by the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine in cooperation with the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, the State Tax Service of Ukraine, and the National Bank of Ukraine in partnership with Mastercard.
