Ukrainian developer creates macOS widget Notchling for convenient session tracking Claude Code

A developer named CircleRT has unveiled his own open-source tool on Reddit called Notchling. It's a macOS widget that helps solve the confusion of running multiple Claude Code sessions at the same time.
As the developer explained , the main premise of the project is the constant loss of control when working with 4-5 Claude Code sessions in parallel. One of the sessions can hang for 10 minutes waiting for action or get stuck on a permission request in a minimized terminal tab, forcing the IT person to constantly switch between windows to check the status.
Initially, the author created the tool for his own use, but after positive feedback from colleagues, he streamlined the code and published it under a free MIT license.
A laptop with a notch is not required: on displays without one, the application draws its own virtual notch, so it works perfectly on both the MacBook Air and external monitors. The application is written in Swift without any third-party dependencies.
Notchling Features
Notchling does not require complex configuration. It reads the Claude Code session registry and determines terminal identifiers via shell environment variables. The tool works with any terminal (including iTerm2, Terminal.app, and Warp) and even recognizes sessions that were started before the widget itself was started.
Clicking on a row in the widget opens the exact terminal tab that requires the user's attention.
The application is fundamentally unable to automatically confirm requests or enter data on behalf of the user. The program works exclusively in monitoring mode.
The widget clearly distinguishes between active tool operation and the state of waiting for user actions, displays subagents in a tree view, tracks suspended processes, and shows the context and session names.
Implemented as an LSUIElement, so it does not appear in the Dock or when switching via Cmd-Tab. The application window is not able to capture keyboard focus, which makes it impossible to accidentally interrupt text input.
Notchling runs entirely locally, consuming 0.0-0.1% of CPU resources. The application does not collect telemetry and only makes network requests if the user has enabled the daily update check feature via Homebrew.
The project is fully open to the community and available for download on GitHub .
Тест dev.ua
