Amid concerns that AI could impact jobs held by humans today, especially in content creation, Wikipedia indicates that it intends to use AI as a tool that facilitates people's work, not replaces them, writes TechCrunch.
The use of AI includes creating workflows using this technology that automate tedious tasks. In addition, AI will be used to improve the accessibility of information on Wikipedia by giving editors more time for the human discussion necessary to reach consensus on creating, changing, and updating Wikipedia articles.
AI will also assist editors by automating translation and will assist in the onboarding process of new volunteers.
“Our efforts will be guided by our long-standing values, principles, and policies (such as privacy and human rights) as a compass: we will take a human-centric approach and prioritize human activity; we will prioritize the use of open-source AI and transparency,” said Chris Albon, Director of Machine Learning at the Wikimedia Foundation.
