The court sentenced the accused to 10 years' imprisonment. He was also deprived of the right to hold positions in law enforcement agencies for a period of 3 years and deprived of the military rank of colonel.
In addition, the property of the SBU employee was confiscated, including cryptocurrency in the amount of more than $58,000 held in various multi-currency crypto wallets.
Case details
This is an employee of the Department of Counterintelligence Protection of the State's Interests in the Field of Information Security of the SBU, Serhiy Scherbakovsky, who was detained in July 2022, the Anti-Corruption Center reports .
According to the investigation, he demanded $60,000 from an entrepreneur engaged in cryptocurrency mining. For these funds, the accused promised to return the equipment seized as part of the investigation into the theft of electricity in the East of Ukraine, as well as for not obstructing the conduct of business.
After receiving an offer to pay for the confiscated goods, the owner of the equipment immediately applied to NABU with a corresponding application.
As of today, a preventive measure in the form of bail in the amount of almost 2 million hryvnias has been applied to Shcherbakovsky.
