WhatsApp has introduced a new tool called Writing Help, which allows users to change the tone or rephrase messages using artificial intelligence.
This is reported by TechCrunch. The feature works thanks to Meta Private Processing technology. This means that the message text itself and the rewriting options remain private: neither WhatsApp developers nor Meta itself can see them. According to the plan, the new feature will help users make messages more professional, humorous, supportive, or simply edited for the desired context.
The company demonstrated the function using a real-life example. The AI offered the usual message «Please don’t leave dirty socks on the couch» in several styles: as a joke — «Don’t make the couch a sock graveyard,» in the form of ironic news — «Urgent messages: socks found on the couch. Please remove them,» or in a light joke — «Hey, ninja, laundry basket in the other direction.»
Writing Help is accessed via a new pencil icon when composing a message. The user selects the desired style and can then either send the generated text or edit it manually.
The feature has already begun rolling out in English in select countries, with WhatsApp saying that Writing Help will be available in other regions soon.
Meta has been actively integrating generative AI into its products in recent months. Facebook and Instagram already have AI storytelling and visual tools. Now WhatsApp messenger has received its «portion» of artificial intelligence, which should consolidate it not only as a platform for private chats, but also as a technologically advanced ecosystem.
As we previously reported, dev.ua reported that WhatsApp announced updates that would help users recognize fraudulent schemes in personal and group chats. At the same time, the company removed more than 6.8 million accounts linked to international criminal centers.
