The Cabinet of Ministers gave the "green light" to the latest Wi-Fi 6E technology: what will this mean for users
The Cabinet of Ministers has adopted a resolution that makes significant changes to the Plan for the Allocation and Use of Radio Frequency Spectrum, in particular, they relate to Wi-Fi 6E and the end date for the use of 3G technology.
The Cabinet of Ministers has adopted a resolution that makes significant changes to the Plan for the Allocation and Use of Radio Frequency Spectrum, in particular, they relate to Wi-Fi 6E and the end date for the use of 3G technology.
According to the NCEC, one of the key aspects of the updated plan, approved by the government on August 13, is the allocation of new radio frequency bands for advanced technologies. This will significantly improve the quality and speed of mobile and wireless Internet.
5945-6425 MHz for Wi-Fi 6 — this range opens the door for the full implementation of the modern Wi-Fi 6E standard. For users, this will mean higher speeds, lower latency, and more stable connections, especially in places with a large number of connected devices. Previously, the lack of permission for this range limited the supply of the latest technology to Ukraine, such as routers, laptops, and smartphones with Wi-Fi 6E support;
The end date for the use of 3G technology is set at December 31, 2030. This decision is aimed at freeing up frequencies for more efficient standards such as 4G and 5G. Operators have already begun a phased shutdown of the outdated network, and it is emphasized that in settlements where only 3G is available, it will not be turned off until 4G coverage appears;
6425-7000 MHz for 4G/5G. From January 1, 2028, this band will be used for IMT mobile communication technologies, which is the foundation for the further development of 4G networks and the full deployment of 5G;
1980-2010 MHz / 2170-2200 MHz for satellite communications.Also from January 1, 2028, these frequencies will be available for the mobile satellite service and as a supplement to the terrestrial components of the IMT, which will improve coverage and reliability of communications.
«These changes are an important step on the path of Ukraine’s European integration and are aimed at ensuring that Ukrainians have access to the most modern communication standards at the same time as citizens of European Union countries,» the NCEC added.
