"Finding at least one Embedded engineer is happiness": "Wild Hornets" about the shortage of personnel and additional training for 90% of the team

The Ukrainian company Wild Hornets spoke about the biggest personnel shortage in the drone manufacturing industry — the search for Embedded engineers, for whom there is practically no hiring limit.
«Embedded is the most scarce profession in our industry. We actually have no limit on these vacancies. If we find five, we will take five. If ten, we will take ten. But the problem is that finding at least one is happiness,» said a company representative inan interview with DOU. The company is looking for specialists with experience working with Embedded Linux systems, skills working with microcontrollers, and knowledge of C/C++/Python.
In the entire history of the company, the speaker says, only about ten people came with ready-made experience and immediately started working at full efficiency.
Even candidates with strong resumes and experience in large companies often don’t meet the company’s real-world requirements. Overall, 90% of employees came to Wild Hornets from other industries, he notes.
In addition to Embedded engineers, the company is currently looking for designers, artificial intelligence specialists, as well as specialists in parts import and logistics.
The company currently has about twenty IT specialists working with code in the R&D department — in addition to them, R&D covers the Hornet Vision direction and the development of new drones. The work format is different from production lines: if assembly line production operates according to a classic schedule with deadlines and KPIs without the possibility of remote work, then in R&D specialists can work remotely — in the field, on the front, without a fixed schedule.
The company does not hire foreign specialists for security reasons: if the code used in weapons crosses the border, this can be interpreted as an export of technology, and the company loses control over the process when a person works from another country.
Regarding wages, salaries in manufacturing are slightly higher than the industry average, with a bonus system and additional payments for working on Saturdays or overtime. Administrative staff receive market salaries, and leading engineers receive higher than market salaries, on par with Middle and Senior developers in IT companies.
