Due to a $28 billion defense funding deficit, Ukraine may face serious problems in providing the Defense Forces with drones this winter.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated this during an online conversation with journalists, Economic Truth reports .
"About a third of this money, or maybe even a little more, is January, February, March, drones. And if we don’t order them and pay for them in October and November, we will have serious challenges in January-February," Zelenskyy emphasized.
According to him, defense products need to be ordered and paid for in October-November so that they reach the military in January-February.
A total of $28 billion, as Zelensky specified, is needed to finance drones, missiles, support for the military, and also partially to pay them cash benefits.
The President added that Ukraine has discussed the issue of the defense budget deficit in detail with the EU and the International Monetary Fund. In this regard, Zelensky also called on the European Commission to accelerate the provision of the second tranche of the $90 billion package.
